Mechanical and Rigging

All timbers through the midships area built double thickness. Long external iron ballast keel with heavy oak floors in way of the keel bolts and laminated floors elsewhere. The keel bolts were last drawn in a 1994 survey. The unique design of the Hillyard 37 provides a three cabin lay-out with a deep centre cockpit all in a very strong, docile and forgiving sailing hull and they usually have a powerful engine to get you home if you are in a hurry.
A new engine was installed by the present owner in 1995, a Ford Mermaid Meteor 11 57bhp 4 cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine with PRM Delta hydraulic, single lever controlled gearbox to centre line 3 blade propeller giving 5 knots comfortable cruising speed.
