Construction:
Built circa1988 by Westerly Yachts Limited of Portsmouth to an Ed Dubois design. White GRP hull. Twin cast iron keels. Deck and coachroof are of white GRP balsa sandwich construction. Stainless steel pushpit. Aft cockpit, tiller steering, grey/blue painted non slip deck.
Accommodation:
Forepeak with 2 single berths and infill for a double berth. The main saloon has a fixed central table with settee berths port and starboard, with the port side converting to a double. Aft cabin to port with large double berth.
Interior finished in ash and teak, 6' headroom. Teak and holly sole. Water supply via a 17 gallon stainless steel tank. Marine toilet with sanitary pipework. Electric tap and wash basin.
Galley to port with full cooker, s/s sink with foot pumped water supply, insulated ice box and ample storage.
Navigational Aids:
Contest compass, VHF radio. Navman Log and depth instuments, Nasa Clipper wind instrument, Garmin 126 GPS. Autohelm TP 1000, VHF cockpit speaker. The chart table is opposite the galley with chart stowage and space for instrumentation and books with a fitted VHF radio.
Engines and Tankage:
Volvo Penta 2002, 18hp diesel engine driving a 2 blade propellor via conventional gearbox and shaft. Prop rope cutter.
1 x 18 gallon steel fuel tank
240 volt shore power and 240 volt battery charger, 90 amp/hr engine battery also a 135 amp/hr service battery.
Sails and Spars:
Fractional bermudan sloop with aluminium spars.
New standing rigging 2005
All sail controls led aft to cockpit. Rotostay headsail furling with No1 Genoa, Slab reefing mainsail (plus cover)
The hull has had epoxy treatment 2005
Equipment:
Plough anchor with 30m of chain and 30m of rope. Dodgers. Sprayhood, sacrificial strip to Genoa and sail cover. There is 2 x 2 speed genoa winches, 2 x halyard winches and furling line winch. Radar reflector, new deck safety lines. Dinghy.Kedge anchor with chain.
Clock and barometer, 2 x lifebuoys, fire blanket and 3 x fire extinguishers.
Remarks:
The Westerly Merlin offers an impressive performance under sail. The interior is spacious and attractive with accomodation for up to seven people. With the three cabin layout offering privacy and comfort. She is close winded and easily handled by a family crew. Under engine she is highly manoeuvrable both ahead and astern.
