Construction:
This Formosa 51 is an "Owners Edition" and was built by the Formosa Boat Company, in Tampai, Taiwan in 1981.
The Hull is made of 19mm thick fiberglass and the decks are of a Teak sandwich construction.
The interior is solid Teak throughout with elegant wood carving and fine detailed workmanship.
Accommodation:
The Formosa 51 has a Large Saloon,with seating around the table for Eight. The table can also bo lowered to create a Double berth. The saloon has also been fitted with a "Surround Sound" Hi-Fi system and a 24inch flat screen TV.
There is a Chart table and ahead of that the the steering position with autopilot and all navigational aids.
The aft cabin comprises a double berth with en-suite with extra portholes on the transom.
Ahead of the saloon is the galley which has a double sink, four burner cooker and oven, microwave, a fridge and a freezer. There is also a breakfast table in the galley that seats four.
Off the galley is a door leading to the second Heads compatment which also has a sit up bath and shower.
Further ahead is the forecabin which has one double with one single berth over it, there is also a connecting door to the head.
The forepeak was originally the crew quarters with two single bunks and a lot of extra storage space.
Navigational Aids:
This Fomosa 51 has been fitted with; Simrad instuments, Raymarine SL70c GPS, Radar, Plotter and Autopilot.
Sestral Compasses, Shakespeare SE2510 VHF, Icom hand held VHF, Furuno SSB, Furuno second GPS, Navtex, Thrane & Thrane Sat Phone.
Engines and Tankage:
The Engine is a Ford Leman six-cylinder 122hp diesel with a Borg Warner 2.5 2-1 gearbox which drives a three blade prop, it is regularly serviced.
The working hours are 4500.
The cruising speed under engine is around 6kn with a max 9kn under sail.
She is also fitted with a 24v Bow Thruster.
The Formosa 51 has four fuel tanks with a total capacity of 800 ltr.
There are also three water tnks with a total capacity of 900 ltr and a holding tank.
Sails and Spars:
The standing SS rigging was replaced in 2005, This is a cutter headed Ketch, The original wooden masts have been replaced with aluminium masts and booms fitted with "Pro Furl Mk7 in boom and mizzen reefing system. The Genoa is also roller furling.
All winches (6) have been replaced with Harken self tailing 2 speed S/S.
The sails were new in 2004 and comprise:
Mizzen, Main, Staysail, Genoa (130%) and a Cruising chute new in 2007.
Equipment:
Ground Tackle.
A Danforth Anchor, two CQRs 100m Chain and a 1500w windlass.
Water System.
Pressurized throughout, Heat exchanger on engine, 220v immersion heater, 60ltr an hour water maker, both toilets and plumbing replaced with jabsco systems in 2008.
Inventory,
This vessel is Climma air conditioned with a very large inventory,too large to list.There are sun awnings and an abundance of other equipment fully fitted and ready to go for safe comfortable long distance cruising.
All paintwork was redone in 2003 with new antifouling in 2007.
Remarks:
She has sailed three return passages across the North Atlantic, the las being in 2007 with the ARCs plus extensive sailing in the caribbean, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. She is comfortable for two people to sail with the Pro-Furl system making sail handling a simple matter, the 24v bow thruster is powerful and responsive.
