Construction: The boat is constructed out of 5 mm steel plates. A full length shallow keel gives extra lateral resistance and ballast. There is 1 ton of concrete (same expansion rate as steel) for extra stability. The cocpit is large and deep for extra protection. |
Accommodation: From the cockpit two lead glassed doors lead into the cosy saloon (like a gipsy caravan). There are two full size settee berth with a drop leaf table in between. The galley is aft with a two burner fail safe cooker to port and a sink with pumped water to starboard. Forward in the saloon is a lovely charcoal heater, to keep you as warm as toast, even on the cold days. The focsle houses two berth and the enclosed heads. There is ample of storage place throughout the boat. |
Navigational Aids: This boat is for the person who likes traditional sailing. Hence there is no navigational equipment on board, just a set of navigation lights. |
Engines and Tankage: The Mercedes OM636, 4 cylinder 32hp diesel drives a hydraulic gearbox. A double jointed telescopic driveshaft links the gearbox to the propeller shaft. The thrust force is taken by a large thrust bearing. The stainless steel prop shaft drives a three bladed propeller. |
Sails and Spars: Varnished wooden mast, boom, gaff and bowsprit. Loose footed mainsail with two reefing points. The gaff is the traditional short, curved gaff. The hank-on staysail has two reefing points The jib is set flying from the end of the bowsprit. For sailing off the wind, there is a large genoa. |
Equipment: This boat was designed for fishing, now used for sailing harbours and coastal waters. There is very little equipment on board, just the necessary items like fire fighting equipment and flares. |
Remarks: This boat turns heads. A pleasure to look at and a delight to sail. It goes well in light weather and charges like a bull when the wind picks up. Due to the shallow draft one can take shortcuts across the bars or moor up deep into the creek. A rare opportunity to buy this unique craft. |
